PREMOULDED TONGUE & GROOVE JOINT

ASPHALTIC KEYWAY
Provides a flex-action interlock between concrete floor slabs with a full depth expansion joint and gasketed keyway.

SEALTIGHT PREMOULDED TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT is a semi-rigid asphaltic core board that serves as a gasketed key interlocking concrete slabs. It also acts as a full depth expansion joint which effectively adjusts to temperature-related expansions and contractions.

Technical Description
SEALTIGHT PREMOULDED TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT is a semi-rigid asphaltic core board. Its trapezoidal shape is formed with dies under heat and pressure to provide a uniform cross-sectional configuration. As opposed to bare concrete-to-concrete joints or joints keyed with metal that tend to abrade, deteriorate and spall with resulting losses in maintenance, time and dollars, this unique SEALTIGHT design provides important cost-saving advantages.

Uses
SEALTIGHT PREMOULDED TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT provides a practical method to interlock adjacent concrete floor slabs with a full-depth expansion joint and gasketed keyway.

It effectively reacts to expansion and contraction movements caused by temperature changes and takes up flexing actions caused by heavy
industrial traffic passing over adjacent floor slabs. SEALTIGHT TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINTS are also ideal for concrete wall applications. Asphaltic TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT also provides a gasket between the interfaces of the concrete joint that eliminates abrasive action, spalling and cracking. It provides a mechanical bearing surface between the slabs that does not require sealing and will not extrude, rot or absorb water.

Advantages and Benefits

bulletProvides a gasketed key that interlocks slabs and helps resolve flex-action problems
bulletWorks as a full depth control joint that adjusts to expansion and contraction action
bulletServes as a form and screed support
bulletCosts less and does more than metal key joints
bulletEasy, economical to use, readily available

Application
Preparation before actual application is most important. The following steps must be performed:

1. Properly grade and compact subgrade area.
2. Establish elevation and stretch line over entire length.

Two application thicknesses are available for design flexibility. The 1/4" (6.35mm) thick TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT Filler having legs of equal length, are installed in a vertical position flush with the concrete surfaces.

Adjacent lengths with the hole forms 1" (25.4mm) in from each end should be overlaid and stake pins installed in both holes or in each hole, if butted. Secure the joints in position by installing steel stake pins on prepunched 24" (.61m) centers or positioning against the concrete form, when reinforcing is desired. Adjacent concrete slabs can be doweled with 1/2" (12.7mm) deformed bars placed at right angles to the joint and spaced on 30" (.76m) centers.

PREMOULDED TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT is also available in a 1/8" (3.18mm) thick version for use as a gasketed keyway and full-depth contraction joint in concrete highways, streets, driveways and airport runways.

Notes On Placing Concrete
1. Concrete should be compacted or spaded at joints and into keyway.
2. Place concrete on both sides of keyed joint filler, when not supported by form board, to keep alignment of joint filler. A concrete slurry should be placed on the back side of the joint filler opposite the area to be poured. Trapezoid dimensions are standard for all sizes of TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT. Joint width is dependent upon depth of the legs; in all sizes, trapezoid dimensions remain the same. When installing, stake pins should be fully depressed as illustrated below the slab surface.

Packaging
Sold in full cartons only. 200-500 LF (60.96-152.4m) per carton dependent upon size.

Precautions
SEALTIGHT PREMOULDED TONGUE AND GROOVE JOINT is packaged in corrugated cartons and should be kept in the container until needed for installation. Protect cartons from direct sunlight, weathering and job-site damage. Excessive heat could cause joint material to deform. Store cartons on a flat surface. Read and follow application information, precautions and Material Safety Data information.
